The following message was shared with the campus community on July 19, 2016:
Dear Lafayette Students, Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
As you might recall, the College offered a community conversation last Wednesday in the wake of recent tragedies around the country. This meeting was an opportunity for attendees to share thoughts, to be heard, and to engage in conversation with others who are similarly trying to make meaning from this violence and injustice. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this conversation and for your willingness to engage with one another with honesty and vulnerability.
Unfortunately, since that time, additional tragic and violent events have occurred in our country and abroad – and, it seems that there are daily reminders of our need as individuals and as a community to identify what we might do to see the changes we want and need. In addition, it was clear from our community conversation last week that an opportunity for further discussion would be beneficial. To that end, tomorrow, Wednesday, July 20th from 5-7 pm we will be hosting a second conversation in the Interfaith Chapel.. Whereas the first sought to create a space for community members simply to share, this second meeting will ask what can and should be done on the Lafayette campus to address the challenges we experience and feel deeply. Attendees can expect engaging facilitation and an opportunity to commit to participation.
Food will be provided, although it would be helpful to have a count so as not to waste food. Would you please RSVP here?: https://orgsync.com/115473/events/1510001/occurrences/3440148
For those who can make it for even a portion of this conversation, we look forward to seeing you.
